Food Review | Ju Hao Xiao Long Bao

Was hoping to try for the longest time since it opened for business at Northpoint. Finally the chance came by when I got to finish work on time. Thank God because Northpoint is always packed with crowd and so is their carpark. With the brand new Northpoint City opened doors to the public, you get to choose from a wide range of F&B outlets and even retail shops. Now I can just stay in my kampong and no need Orchard anymore.

Started from Lavender Food Centre till now, Ju Hao  has more than 10 outlets islandwide and one of them is located here at Northpoint Yishun. Let us see what it has to offer in this contemporary Chinese dining.

Prawn Cake Fried Rice $13.60

The appearance was alluring and it sets me to order a plate for us. Not kidding but I saw some tables ordering this one here. The prawn cake was crispy on the outside and every bite on the inside was a joy. You get the morsel of prawns in it. However the fried rice though cooked with Japanese rice, wasn't as flavourful as it appears to be.

Mushroom Noodles $8.80

It was a perfect match for mushrooms and minced meat to mix and braise together. The noodles perfectly cooked (neither tangled nor overcooked) and mixing with the braised toppings made it a savoury dish. Similar to Zha Jiang Mian, in my opinion.

Vegetable Spring Roll $8.00

Commonly seen as a must-order side, even if it doesn't give you the hype. I like how crispy it is and the juiciness plus crunchiness coming from the vegetable fillings. No dips needed. A preferred way of having on its own. But the price was slightly steep though.

Wanton in Chilli Oil 红油抄手 $7.80

Sichuan-style dish which we loved so much. It didn't fail much overall except that the fillings itself didn't pack a punch. Needed something juicy and chewy when it comes to meaty fillings.

Steamed Pork Dumplings (Xiao Long Bao) $6.00

What I look for in XLB is mainly on the skin texture. The amount of soup comes second. Because I had terrible ones before from those established names, I had some expectations from the ones here. Everything was good except for the meat which I have explained above (for Wanton in Chilli Oil). Either it wasn't freshly made or I have a little high expectation.

At about $25 per pax (after discount) for this meal, it was slightly cheaper than other established names. If you want to have a decent Chinese cuisine, here is one for you to choose. Visit any of their outlets near you. Click here.
